Outbreak – Terra 1138

Trying to manage a large crew on a shoot is always a little daunting, but being discrete (i.e. not to attract too much attention) and shooting an entire set in the space of two hours with failing light is definitely a challenge. But hey, I’m game.

The Outbreak – Terra 1138, was definitely one of those occasions. The location was a remote spot in Ventura County; remote enough to cause a number of delays as crew, models and MUA tried to make their way to the location. Then to top it off, one of the guy’s taillights got blown out and had to be fixed immediately, following friendly a stop by the boys from the California Highway Patrol.

Towards the end of the shoot, the light was dropping fast, and the flash heads wouldn’t run modeling light off the power-packs, making it impossible to focus. Necessity is the mother of invention as they say so we decided to shoot using the cars headlights instead. Actually, it turned out quite well, giving a cool upwards horror feel as an added bonus.

Due to the limited time, we weren’t able to get all the shots we wanted, which presented a new problem in post; mainly, how the hell was I going to make the story work? Fortunately my wife came to the rescue and helped me pen the script for what became Outbreak – Terra 1138.

Outbreak – Terra 1138 is a photo-comic featuring model Lana K as Terra, a survivor of a zombie outbreak trying to make her way back to LA in order to reunite with her boyfriend (assuming he’s still alive), who finds herself becoming an unwitting zombie slayer in a ravaged post apocalyptic world.
