RoboGeisha

A new movie from the director of Machine Girl

Just when you though Japanese horror films couldn’t get any crazier, along comes a trailer so brilliantly insane that you can help but gawp in awe. Cult director Noboru Iguchi, the man behind the runaway hit Machine Girl, recently posted a clip for his latest venture “RoboGeisha” on YouTube, creating an overnight sensation.

MachineGirl was Noboru’s first big success in the US, due in no small part to its huge viral success. His latest work RoboGeisha looks set to dwarf the success of MachineGirl, propelling Noboru to a whole new level.

The following clip is mind bogglingly beautiful in its wonderfully kitsch craziness. Be warned though, this is NOT safe for work; there are a couple of very strange and slightly disturbing scenes, such as a girl stabbed in the butt, who subsequently squirts blood from the aforementioned area. Other than that, this clip is one of the most entertaining things you will ever see.

MachineGirl is one of the most unintentionally (and intentionally) funny films I have ever seen, featuring some of the worst acting ever to be caught on celluloid – bar perhaps R.O.T.O.R. The effects are brilliant and horrid all at the same time, and RoboGeisha looks set to make those pale into insignificance. Noboru likes to cast unknown and often non-actors in his films, which in turn adds to the overall cheesiness as they attempt to deliver their lines. The end result, while sometimes painful to watch, is for the most part highly entertaining in a strange and somewhat disturbing way.

RoboGeisha is collaboration between Noboru Iguchi and special effects man Yoshihiro Nishimura, who also worked on MachineGirl and was himself the director of Tokyo Gore Police. RoboGeisha continues the duos tradition of crazy and outrageous special effects with bleeding buildings, transforming Geisha tanks, and Katanas protruding from impossible places. It’s impossible not to laugh out loud watching this trailer, and if this is anything to go by, RoboGeisha promises to be the best (worst) movie ever, period.

Awesome freakin' film. Non stop action, deliberately ridiculous badly translated dialogue and enough blood to make Ichy blush. The tank and bleeding buildings sealed the deal for me. Boootifull. Enough spoilers, go watch it.
